A head to toe therapeutic massage taking in the whole body with a little extra attention focussed on any problem areas you may have with as much or as little pressure as you prefer.
Lymphatic drainage massage utilises a range of rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This improves delivery of substances vital to the immune system and helps with removal of waste products.
Lymphatic drainage is becoming increasingly more important as time goes by. Pollution and stress are greater and people's immune systems more compromised in the modern world than at any other time. We are therefore more susceptible to contagious disease and viral infection than ever before.
The lymph system is a vital regulator of the body's immune system and if it becomes compromised in any way then lymphatic fluid backs up and becomes stagnant, causing the entire system to become toxic.
Clearing these blockages helps eliminate waste products and toxins from the system and aids in the transport of nutrition to the body's tissues. This results in improved metabolic efficiency (both anabolic and catabolic) as well as a reduction in fluid retention. It is also a powerful stimulator of the parasympathetic nervous system, meaning it is extremely relaxing and greatly reduces tension and stress.
Lymphatic drainage massage of the face is becoming a very popular beauty treatment. It removes excess fluid just as it does everywhere else thereby reducing puffiness, assists in desquamation (shedding of dead skin cells from the epidermis) and rejuvenates collagen fibers, slowing the ageing process.
Lymphatic drainage is used to treat a variety of conditions, such as:
Deep tissue massage (as the name would suggest) focuses on the deeper layers of body tissue. The strokes are applied more deeply, firmly and slowly than those used in holistic massage, the aim being to release patterns of tension from the body, working both with and across the fibres of muscles, fascia and tendons.
Deep tissue massage is used to relieve chronic muscle tension and help break up and eliminate scar tissue, it usually focuses on specific areas of pain or tension and can cause slight soreness both during and also following the treatment. When applied correctly the massage will leave the recipient with delayed onset muscle soreness similar to that felt after a work out in the gym.
This type of treatment is applied with the principle aim of providing the recipient with a clear therapeutic benefit. While all the treatments listed on this page are extremely therapeutically valuable (I would not have studied in order to offer them did I not believe this to be the case) this kind of treatment focuses primarily on providing a therapeutic effect, usually to a specific area or areas of tissue where the client has been experiencing pain.
The treatment aims to ease tension in the targeted muscles, remove or reduce muscle adhesion (knots) and provide relief from pain. While this type of massage can be just as relaxing as any of the others listed here relaxation is not the end goal of the session (or series of sessions), the massage is designed for the client based on their specific needs in order to provide maximum therapeutic benefit with any sense of relaxation being simply a by-product.
You'll notice I've also opted for blocks of 9 rather than ten. This is simply because, as my regulars will tell you, every tenth treatment is free under my loyalty reward scheme anyway!
